I Have Spent Years Studying Why Men’s Hearts Fail.

These Are The Patterns I Keep Seeing.

By David Ransom

I have invested over ₦100 million into men’s health in Nigeria.

Not because I wanted to create another health brand.

I wanted to answer a question that kept coming up:

Why are so many men dying from cardiovascular problems that could have been prevented?

Over the years, I have worked on health campaigns, studied behavior patterns, built systems through PaddyPaddy Naturals Ltd, and observed how men make decisions about their health.

One thing has become clear.

The heart usually does not fail because of one bad day.

It fails because of thousands of small decisions repeated for years.

Most of these decisions do not look dangerous.

That is exactly why they are dangerous.

Here are three patterns I believe more men need to understand.

1. What you drink every day matters more than most people realize.

Many men are not consuming sugary drinks because they are careless.

They are using them as a tool.

A drink to stay awake during a long shift.

A drink to get through back-to-back meetings.

A drink because there is no time to stop and eat properly.

The problem is that liquid sugar works differently from food.

When you consume sugar in a drink, you get a large amount of energy quickly without the fiber and fullness that normally slow consumption.

Over time, this can contribute to weight gain, insulin resistance, fatty liver, higher blood pressure, and increased strain on the cardiovascular system.

The interesting thing is that most people would never sit down and eat several teaspoons of sugar directly.

But they will drink the same amount without thinking twice.

The issue is not simply discipline.

It is the environment.

If your daily routine makes unhealthy choices easier, eventually those choices become automatic.

A simple starting point is replacing one sugary drink every day with water, unsweetened hibiscus tea, or lemon water.

Small changes repeated consistently are usually more powerful than extreme changes that do not last.

2. Exercise does not cancel out a lifestyle built around sitting.

One mistake I see often is that people confuse exercise with movement.

They go to the gym three times a week.

They play football on weekends.

They feel protected.

But then they spend most of the remaining hours sitting.

At a desk.

In traffic.

On the couch.

The body does not only respond to workouts.

It responds to everything you do throughout the day.

Long periods of inactivity affect circulation, metabolism, and inflammation.

A 30-minute workout is valuable.

But it does not completely erase 10 hours of physical inactivity.

The solution is not complicated.

Stand more.

Walk after meals.

Take calls while moving.

Break up long periods of sitting.

The goal is not to become an athlete.

The goal is to stop living like the body was designed to be still all day.

3. Sleep is one of the most underrated forms of heart protection.

Many successful men treat sleep like something they can sacrifice.

They see it as the price of ambition.

But sleep is not wasted time.

It is when the body performs maintenance.

During sleep, the body regulates blood pressure, balances hormones, repairs blood vessels, and restores important systems.

When sleep becomes consistently short, the body stays in a state of stress.

Over time, this can increase blood pressure, affect metabolism, and place more pressure on the cardiovascular system.

The mistake is thinking that poor sleep only affects energy.

It affects the machinery behind your health.

A simple improvement is to treat sleep like any other important appointment.

Protect the time.

Reduce unnecessary screen exposure.

Create a routine your body can recognize.

The pattern behind all three

These habits are not unusual.

That is why they are difficult to change.

Nobody wakes up and decides to damage their heart.

It happens gradually.

A little less sleep.

A little more sugar.

A little less movement.

Repeated for years.

The challenge is that modern life rewards these behaviors.

Long working hours.

Constant availability.

Convenience.

Pressure to keep going.

But the same systems that help men succeed professionally can quietly damage them physically if they are not designed properly.

The answer is not motivation.

Motivation fades.

The answer is building systems.

Create an environment where healthy choices become easier to make.

Because prevention does not start when symptoms appear.

It starts with the routines nobody notices.

This is the work I have dedicated myself to.

I am David Ransom, a licensed naturopath trained by a research institute in India.

I am recognized by the Federal Ministry of Health as a Traditional Medicine Practitioner in Nigeria, licensed by the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board, and certified by the African Centre of Excellence for Drug Research, Herbal Medicine Development and Regulatory Science at the University of Lagos.

My health sensitization articles have been published in THE PUNCH, The SUN, VANGUARD, and other national publications.

I am also the author of multiple books focused on hormonal health and metabolic medicine.

Through PaddyPaddy Naturals Ltd, I built FLOWX40.com, a NAFDAC-approved supplement designed to support endothelial function and long-term cardiovascular resilience.

I also developed a mobile application designed to help diabetic patients reduce their risk of Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic State (HHS) coma.

The lesson I keep coming back to is simple:

You do not change people by giving them more information.

You change people by changing the systems around them.

When the healthier option becomes the easier option, behavior follows.
